Britten Cantata Academica; Four Sea Interludes & Passacaglia; Spring Symphony
Ryan Wigglesworth new work (Aldeburgh commission, world premiere)

Celebrating the seasons’ cycle, rebirth and renewal, the vibrant Spring Symphony teems with life, its rousing setting of Summer is Icumen an unforgettable finale. For many, the shifting moods in the masterly sea pictures from Peter Grimes is the music most closely associated with the composer and his adopted home town but few will know the delightful rarity Cantata Academica, an ebullient tour de force whose unabashed joie de vivre is at odds with the drily mock-solemn title.
