Aldeburgh Music to present Peter Grimes on Aldeburgh beach

Aldeburgh Music will present Britten’s most famous opera, Peter Grimes, on Aldeburgh beach in June 2013 as part of the 2013 Aldeburgh Festival, alongside concert performances of the opera at Snape Maltings Concert Hall and a Grimes journey in Aldeburgh town devised by Punchdrunk.

In the course of 2013 Peter Grimes will be performed in opera houses and concert halls around the world from Bogotá to Berlin, Tenerife to Tokyo and Salt Lake City to Stockholm. Yet no experience can beat hearing the work performed in Aldeburgh in the very place that inspired its creation and where Britten lived and composed for 30 years of his life.

The beach performances will be directed by British director Tim Albery and will form part of the 66th Aldeburgh Festival, founded by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1948.

Dates will be announced shortly and priority booking will start in January 2013, with general public booking opening in mid-February.
